Manyatta, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kenya
The Kathakwa coffee factory is located on the slopes of Mount Kenya in the Manyatta division of Embu, benefiting from rich volcanic soil and an annual rainfall of nearly 1,500mm. The region has a climate that typically ranges from 12 to 25 degrees Celsius. Coffee production follows a standard schedule with main and secondary crops. After picking, cherries are processed at the factory using water from the Kii River, dried on traditional African raised beds, and then transported to the Central Kenya Coffee Mill in Nyeri for grading and sorting.
